CSA FAQ

  • How are your animals raised?
The pigs are raised on pasture (except in the winter when they are deep-bedded in hay in the barn) and are free to forage and graze. The beef is entirely grass fed. The meat and egg chickens are raised on grass pastures. All meat and eggs are antibiotic- and hormone-free, ethically raised, and treated with respect.
  • What do you feed the animals?
The pigs are fed local corn, oats, soy and diatomaceous earth in addition to the roots, grasses, grubs and leaves that they find for themselves. The cows graze fresh pastures supplemented with hay and silage seasonally.
  • How much does the CSA cost per pound?
The pricing works out to be $9.00 per pound, plus a few extra cents to cover the cost of the bags we use. When a t-bone steak or a pork chop at Union Square can top $15/pound, a meat CSA is a great way to eat ethically and deliciously, more affordably.
  • Do you sell half shares?
Unlike a vegetable CSA our product can be saved for up to a year in your home freezer. Because of this we don't sell half shares, we suggest you stockpile the excess and skip the next quarter.
  • Can I order specific cuts in addition to my share sometimes?
Yes! Whenever you want to add to your share, you can order through our Buyer's Club online store and the meat will be delivered with your next CSA delivery. To make sure we have the cut you want, please order by the Sunday before the pickup date. If you want something and can't find it on the website, send us an email at [email protected] and we'll set it up for you. And as a CSA member you get a 10% discount! Email us for the coupon code.
  • A CSA quarter just started. Can I sign up midway through a quarter?
Absolutely! Just email us at [email protected] and we will pro-rate the cost of the quarter for you.
  • What are the pickup dates for the next quarter?
We are now taking customers for the Fall Quarter! The pickup dates will be: 9/25, 10/9, 10/23, 11/6, 11/20, 12/4, and 12/18.
  • Is my share fresh or frozen?
Some cuts will be frozen; most will be fresh. If it is frozen it was frozen the day of butchering, and you will get the same shelf life out of each package once thawed.
  • When was my meat butchered?
Everything is easier for us to store “on the hoof,” so we do most of our butchering the week before your pickup.
  • When and where can I pickup my share?
Please check the “pickup locations” page for a list of locations and pickup times.
  • Can I pick up at a different location from time to time?
Yes you can, please give us 3 days notice (the Monday prior to your pickup date.)
  • What if I can't make my pick-up?
If you know ahead of time that you are not going to be able to make your pick up please E-mail us. We can deliver you a double share the next week.
  • What if I am going to be out of town and will miss picking up my share?
Please E-mail us. Feel free to send a friend or family member in your place, or we'll deliver your missed share the next delivery date.
  • Can someone else pick up my share?
Sure, as long as they know your name they can pick it up.
  • What if my share was not there or something was missing?
Well then we are quite embarrassed!! Just e-mail us and we’ll make it right on the next drop.
  • What if I am late picking up?
Unfortunately there’s not much we can do, our pickup locations are businesses who go out of their way to distribute our product, anything that isn't picked up on time is forfeited.
